Prenatal Yoga Classes

Prenatal yoga is a gentle, multifaceted practice for pregnancy. It combines breathing, gentle stretching, supported postures and deep relaxation. Research suggests it is safe for most pregnant women and can improve sleep, reduce stress and anxiety, and build the strength and endurance needed for childbirth. Always start with your doctor's approval.

Detailed Curriculum

What this class covers

What happens in a prenatal class

  • Breathing: slow, deep nasal breathing that helps with breathlessness in pregnancy and with contractions in labour
  • Gentle stretching: moving the neck, shoulders, hips and back through a comfortable range of motion
  • Postures: standing, seated and side-lying positions for strength, flexibility and balance, with blankets, cushions and belts for support
  • Cool-down and relaxation: restoring heart rate and breathing, with awareness practices for inner calm

Safety first

Classes are adapted trimester by trimester. We avoid deep twists, lying on the back after the first trimester, overheating and abdominal pressure. Tell your instructor about any complications. Stop and inform your doctor if you feel pain, dizziness or anything unusual.
