Yin–Yang Yoga

Yin–Yang yoga combines two practices in one class. Yin postures are held passively for several minutes and work the deep connective tissue and joints. Yang sequences are dynamic and build muscle, circulation and stamina. Together they balance energy, flexibility and strength, and calm the mind.

Detailed Curriculum

What this class covers

Yin and Yang

Yin and Yang are Taoist terms for the two complementary qualities in everything. Yin is internal, passive, cooling and downward. Yang is external, dynamic, warming and upward. A balanced yoga practice needs both.

How a class flows

A typical class begins with a warming Yang flow of standing postures and sun salutations. It then moves to the floor for long Yin holds supported by props, and ends with breathwork and relaxation. You can also add one or two Yin sessions to a week of active classes.
